Where Your Water Comes From
At GMWSS, delivering clean, safe, and reliable drinking water starts with a trusted source and ends with rigorous testing and treatment.
Our Water Source
GMWSS draws its water from Royal Spring, a natural groundwater spring located in Georgetown, Kentucky. This spring is known for its consistent quality and serves as the primary drinking water source for our community.
Unlike surface water, which is more exposed to environmental contaminants, groundwater from Royal Spring is naturally filtered through rock and soil, offering an excellent foundation for high-quality drinking water.
Water Treatment Process
Our state-of-the-art treatment plant ensures your water meets or exceeds all federal and state safety standards. The process includes:
- Screening & Pre-Treatment: Removing debris and particulates.
- Coagulation & Flocculation: Binding small particles into larger ones for removal.
- Sedimentation: Letting particles settle out of the water.
- Filtration: Passing water through sand and carbon filters.
- Disinfection: Using chlorine to kill bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens.
- pH Adjustment & Corrosion Control: Protecting pipes and ensuring stability.
Daily Testing and Monitoring
GMWSS conducts routine sampling and testing at multiple points in the system to ensure that your water meets all drinking water standards. Our water is tested for:
- Bacteria and microbial contaminants
- Lead and copper
- Organic and inorganic compounds
- Disinfection by-products
- pH, hardness, and other system indicators
